Interspan joints deal with flex at retail centre

A Tremco illbruck product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Dec 18, 2008

Movement joints from Tremco illbruck range has been utilised to deal with unusually high movement conditions predicted within the design for the refurbishment of a retail centre.

A total of 270 metres of Tremco illbruck's Interspan All-Metal FS160 movement joints were supplied to the Cawdor Group for its floor-laying contract at Westfield Derby.

Cawdor is a specialist installer of natural stone flooring materials and has specified the Interspan range on other projects.

The commercial Manager for Cawdor, Chris Stuart, comments: "There were some very high movements calculated for the new concrete structure at Westfield Derby, linked to flexing of the concrete slabs, which had to be accommodated.

"We were laying a total of 14,000 square metres of natural limestone flooring over three floors, including 3,000 square metres in the refurbished part of the development.

The movement will stem from thermal expansion as well as structural flexing, but the Compriband Interspan joints from Tremco illbruck are designed to deal with this".

The Interspan All-Metal FS 160 movement joints were supplied in lengths 4m with a leg height of 62mm.

They were mechanically fixed to the concrete subfloor prior to the installation of the dressed limestone sections; providing a neat and attractive edge detail at intervals in the public circulation areas over the three storeys of the centre.
