Entries invited for Structural Concrete 2008
Entries are invited from students of structural and civil engineering for the Structural Concrete 2008 Student Design Competition.
Initiated by The Concrete Centre and supported by the Institution of Structural Engineers, the competition calls for the design of a 4-star hotel which is to be constructed as part of the redevelopment of former dock area on an estuary close to the centre of a UK town.
Entrants must respond as through they are the engineer responsible within the consultant's team.
Entries are invited from all students studying structural design as part of UK university BEng, MEng and MSc degree courses in civil and/or structural engineering.
This year, the competition includes a Sustainability section and prize to reflect the increasing challenge being placed on engineers to address this topic.
The competition aims to encourage interest and raise competence in designing with structural concrete and can easily be incorporated in the existing university curricula with a content that reflects an independent project, a group project or a module assessment run over the first, second or both semesters of the academic year.
The national winner will receive an award of GBP1,250.
There are other prizes for second place, runners up and individual university winners.
The awards presentation will take place at the Institution of Structural Engineers, London, on 18th July 2008.
