Key Quote:.

"Since moving to T-Mobile we have really benefited from T-Mobile's robust network, whilst actually cutting our mobile communications costs." Martin Pope, IT Manager, Hilti Group.

The Hilti Group Company Background.

The Hilti Group is a world leader in developing, manufacturing and marketing high-quality products for professional customers in the construction industry and in building maintenance.

Its product range covers drilling and demolition, direct fastening, diamond and anchoring systems, firestop and foam systems, installation, measuring and screw fastening systems, as well as cutting and sanding systems.

Founded in 1941, the worldwide Hilti Group evolved from a small family company in Lichtenstein and the Martin Hilti family is still very much involved in the company today.

Hilti operates in over 120 countries around the world employing more than 16,000 people.

Whilst its global Headquarters is located at Schaan, in the Principality of Liechtenstein, Hilti's UK Head Office is based in Manchester.

The Challenge.

In the UK, Hilti employs over 300 sales staff, most of which work in field sales visiting customers and new prospects.

With such a large workforce working remotely, effective communication is key to the success of the company.

The ability to provide its staff with accurate, up-to-the second information at all times, no matter where they are located, is of paramount importance to the success of the company.

This is particularly true for a business, which operates in a dynamic, fast-moving market such as construction.

As well as being in a position where they can be contacted by their local office at all times, staff also need to be extremely responsive to their customers and prospects.

This means having reliable, secure and rapid communications at all times to ensure a high level of service and efficiency is maintained.

The Solution.

In order to ensure that its field staff have reliable and effective means of communication with local offices and customers, Hilti has equipped every one of its remote workers and its management team with T-Mobile handsets.

As part of this, Hilti is now using T-Mobile's Integrated Extension Call (IEC) service.

IEC enables Hilti to reduce the cost of calls between its office fixed-line and the company's network of mobile phones.

In addition, people within the office can call a colleague's mobile simply by dialling their allocated short-code extension.

Pope has also equipped some of the engineering and management staff with T-Mobile web'n'walk cards, providing them with access to email, company applications and the internet at Wi-Fi or 3G speeds whilst on the move.

Staff can also utilise T-Mobile HotSpots in places such as Starbucks, BAA Airports and Texaco Garages.

The Benefits.

Since adopting T-Mobile handsets and web'n'walk cards, Hilti, its staff and its customers, are benefiting from a number of communications solutions.

First class Network and Customer Service Pope has been very impressed with the robust network that T-Mobile offers, finding it to be extremely reliable, both in the UK and abroad.

As he says, "In the main our staff have found the T-Mobile network to be strong and reliable".

"If we have had any issues, T-Mobile's staff have been extremely helpful in providing us with different handsets in order to get full strength coverage in these areas." Smarter working and better communication.

Furthermore, Pope has been extremely pleased with the T-Mobile web'n'walk card that he is currently using.

"I recently found myself working in Austria for a few days and was able to access the internet with 3G speeds whilst I was over there thanks to the web'n'walk card".

"It meant that I was able to continue to work on other projects whilst away from the office in England, meaning that I wasn't playing catch up when I got back home".

Cutting internal communications costs.

Hilti has equipped over 300 of its staff with T-Mobile handsets providing them with reliable mobile communication.

The company has worked with T-Mobile to devise a Group-wide tariff tailored specifically to meet the needs of its employees".

"T-Mobile was extremely good in listening to our mobile communications needs and developing a price plan to meet our requirements".

"They easily came up with the most cost effective and appropriate package for us", says Pope.

Effective Change Management.

Hilti found T-Mobile to be very professional and effective in managing the company's switch to the T-Mobile network.

As Pope says, "T-Mobile were really helpful in that they arranged for one of their staff to attend our sales conventions and other events in order to train our staff on the handover, telling them how to switch numbers on to their new SIM cards and handsets".

"They took a lot of the stress and administrative burden out of our decision to move to the T-Mobile network".

Looking ahead.

As Hilti continues to grow, Pope estimates that the company will require extra handsets every year from T-Mobile for the next few years.

As Pope says, "I'm confident that T-Mobile will continue to satisfy our mobile communications both in terms of its network, new technologies and devices, and excellent customer service.".
