SUSTAINABLE CONSTRUCTION CONFERENCE HAILED A SUCCESS The Scott Sutherland School of Architecture and Built Environment at The Robert Gordon University (RGU) hosted the Aberdeenshire Design Forum Sustainable Construction Conference on 6 December 2006.

The event, part-financed by the European Social Fund, was hailed a huge success and attracted 80 delegates from local authorities across Scotland as well as elected members, representatives from the Scottish Executive, architects, agents and local house builders.

The conference was opened by Councillor Alison McInnes, Chair of the Aberdeenshire Council Infrastructure Committee.

The morning session included speeches from RGU's Dr Bill Brogden as well as Andrew Carruthers, Development Plans Manager at Aberdeenshire Council, who both tackled the issue of improving architecture in Aberdeenshire.

The delegates also enjoyed a stimulating presentation from keynote speaker, Mr Sebastian Tombs, Chief Executive of Architecture + Design Scotland.

Four engaging workshops within the afternoon session were delivered from Cadell2, Neil Sutherland Architects, Nicoll Russell Studios and Smith Scott Mullan Associates.

The entire proceedings were chaired by Raymond Reid from Aberdeenshire Council.
