50th anniversary for RGU Scott Sutherland School
Scott Sutherland School of Architecture and Built Environment at The Robert Gordon University is celebrating its 50th anniversary at Garthdee with a range of impressive events.
A high profile exhibition will launch the year-long programme entitled Celebrating Diversity.
The exhibition will run from 18 - 30 May and will showcase the work from 1st, 2nd and 3rd year students from architecture, interior architecture, surveying, construction, design and management, and architectural technology.
The first exhibition will run in conjunction with the opening of the 'Monkey Puzzle' Pavilion in the Castlegate, designed by RGU's Professor Jonathan Woolf as Aberdeen's information point for the Six Cities Design Festival.
The exhibition will include displays of structural models developed by the students, studio projects and live images from the Castlegate Pavilion.
The second exhibition is the School's Degree Show 2007 which runs from 15 - 19 June, the same day as the Gray's School of Art Degree Show, which sees RGU's Garthdee campus transform into a hub of creativity.
The Scott Sutherland School of Architecture and Built Environment Degree Show 2007 will showcase the work of graduating students from architecture, surveying, construction and property development.
Work from across the disciplines will be displayed throughout the School including projections, displays of schemes for the Aberdeen Civic Medal, a design competition sponsored by the city, computer generated visualisation, photographic exhibitions and study trip images.
Both exhibitions are open from 10am - 4pm daily and are free of charge.
Further events will be held throughout the year including an alumni exhibition in the autumn and the launch of a commemorative book written by RGU's Jim Fiddes to chart the School's history over the last 50 years.
David McClean, Head of the Scott Sutherland School of Architecture and Built Environment, said, 'We are celebrating our 50th anniversary with an exciting array of events which reflect the broad spectrum of activities undertaken within the School.
The 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Scott Sutherland School at Garthdee marks a significant milestone in the history of the school.
Over this period we have expanded considerably in scale, breadth of academic expertise, professional representation and ambition.
A number of events will be staged over the forthcoming year to celebrate this journey and to illustrate the current and future development of the School.
'The programme will help to further position the School as an internationally regarded professional institution.
