Tensar Geogrid LTP Techniques Stabilise
New Road
The Tensar Geogrid LTP Techniques stabilise the new Shannon Airport link road.
In the major N18/N19 Ballycasey to Dromoland Road Improvement Scheme in County Clare, the route of the N19 link to Shannon Airport crossed an area of exceptionally poor ground To stabilise the highway sub-base, engineers White Young Green specified Tensar geogrids for a Load Transfer Platform (LTP) over piles - the Tensar Enhanced Arch Method - to save significant time and cost in the contract

Safety and Stability For Piling Rig Platforms
Safety and stability are of paramount importance for Royal Docks piling rig platforms with Tensar Geogrids.
Approximately 800 metres of the N19 dual carriageway were carried over ground consisting of very soft clays and silts, interspersed with layers of peat.
The conventional alternative considered to prevent settlement would have involved completely removing the soft material, as consolidation would have taken an unacceptable length of time.
To avoid contract delays and high costs, White Young Green adopted the Tensar Enhanced Arch solution comprising a grid of vibro-replacement granular and vibro-replacement concrete piles.
Over this, a LTP was installed using Tensar geogrid with granular sub-base fill in order to ensure stability for the highway construction; Tensar Basetex high-strength geotextile was also employed to provide lateral restraint.
The Tensar geogrids interlock with and confine the granular material mobilising its peak shear strength and considerably increasing the angle of load distribution.
This allows the vertical load from the overlying fill to be transferred directly into the pile heads.
This solution enabled the highway to be constructed with significant time savings.
The Enhanced Arch Method with geogrid to create a Load Transfer Platform was proposed as a design solution in consultation between Tensar and White Young Green, then the detailed design implementation was achieved by the contractor, Mulcair supported on-site by Tensar.
