Safety and Stability For Piling Rig Platforms
Safety and stability are of paramount importance for Royal Docks piling rig platforms with Tensar Geogrids.
This would protect it against further erosion, and could be accomplished easily, cost effectively and with rapid grass growth.
Rebuilding the landing area was required because erosion had created an uneven surface, which could result in falls on landing.
At the same time, the opportunity was taken by the authorities to improve the profile of the slope slightly.
After completing the earthworks on the slope profile, the whole landing slope was covered with 6cm of topsoil.
Tensar Mat is a flexible 3-dimensional mat manufactured from polyethylene, which initially stabilises the surface whilst assisting vegetation to establish.
It then goes on to provide long-term, tenacious reinforcement of the root system.
The mat was rolled out over the topsoil, secured with pins and the edges buried in shallow trenches to maintain tension across the landing area.
Following this, grass seed was sown into the Tensar Mat and a final thin layer of topsoil was applied for the grass to grow into and through.
The solution was accepted, and helped the Wielka Krokiew ski jump to gain a new FIS certificate and participate in the international 'ski jump circus' once more.
