Tensar RE geogrids sustain load past 100,000 hours

A Tensar International product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Jun 15, 2005

Tensar International's RE uniaxial geogrids used in reinforced soil retaining walls and slopes, have now passed the significant 10% life or 100,000 hour sustained load test milestone.

Part of the essential testing for geogrid reinforcement used in civil engineering is the sustained load test to determine their long-term allowable strength, so that strength for their full design life (typically 114 years) can be predicted.

Tensar International's RE uniaxial geogrids used in reinforced soil retaining walls and slopes, have now passed the significant 10% life or 100,000 hour sustained load test milestone.

This allows accurate design strength prediction for projects, without the need for any reduction factors, under BS 8006:1995.

Tensar Group Marketing Manager, Tim Oliver, commented: "As Tensar supplies its geogrids for long-term soil reinforcement of critical structures such as walls and bridge abutments, the extra degree of confidence imparted by passing the 100,000 hour mark cannot be underestimated".

"Tensar geogrids have proved their performance, economic and environmental benefits in projects all over the world during the last 25 years".

"Achieving this milestone adds to the weight of evidence that demonstrates why Tensar Technology is such an invaluable addition to the engineer's toolbox of techniques".

The Tensar RE uniaxial geogrids have been under continuous load test with the current data permitting increases from initial strength predictions.

Their long term performance and durability have also been verified in a number of other ageing tests and trials since initial development.
