Total Electrical Training, has been granted NICEIC approval to deliver the electrical contracting regulatory body's DISQ training programme (the Domestic Installer Scheme Qualification).

Specialist electrical training firm, Total Electrical Training, has been granted NICEIC approval to deliver the electrical contracting regulatory body's DISQ training programme (the Domestic Installer Scheme Qualification).

The objective of the DISQ course is to help installers comply with the requirements of the Building Regulations, including Part P.

Obtaining the accreditation was a rigorous process involving multiple meetings, and a two day assessment visit to Total Electrical Training's facilities by an NICEIC official.

The session involved assessment of the competencies of Total Electrical Training's individual staff members as well as the company's facilities and quality assurance processes.

In order for electrical installers to self-certify that their domestic electrical installation work in England and Wales is compliant with the Building Regulations, they must be registered with a competent person scheme, such as the NICEIC Domestic Installer Scheme.

All applicants to the NICEIC Domestic Installer Scheme must meet a number of requirements, in particular be able to demonstrate they have the ability to install, inspect, test and certify their work in accordance with BS 7671, and to comply with the relevant Building Regulations.

The DISQ is a 5-day programme comprising of training and practical assessments, to meet all the needs of the competent person scheme.

The emphasis of the qualification is on understanding regulations, standards and terminology, and having the ability to identify unsafe electrical situations and to perform electrical tests and interpret the results.

Knowledge and appreciation of the relevant requirements of other appropriate Building Regulations is also covered during the course.

"The NICEIC is by far and away the largest of all the Part P scheme providers and was instrumental in lobbying Government for the introduction of a scheme for domestic electricians," explained Chris Atkin, managing director of Total Electrical Training.

"We will now be able to offer delegates a true one stop shop solution within a genuine prescribed environment," Chris concluded.

DISQ will compliment the existing courses offered by Total Electrical Training, including City and Guilds 2381 - 16th Edition IEE Regulations, City and Guilds 2391 - Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations and City and Guilds 2377-01 - Portable Appliance Testing.
