The Concrete Society has announced the appointment of Peter Goring, technical director at John Doyle Construction, as President Designate for the year 2004-2005.

Peter Goring will succeed Bob Cather, associate director at Arup, who will become President at The Society's AGM to be held on 29 July 2004 at the Institution of Structural Engineers in London, when the current President, Howard Taylor, technical director at Tarmac Precast, steps down.

Peter is a graduate of Civil Engineering at Imperial College London and subsequently attained an MSc in Construction Law and Arbitration at Kings College, London.

He is a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers with over 20 years experience in the management and technical supervision of construction projects in both the civils and building arena, nationally and internationally.

A hands-on practitioner, in his current role at John Doyle, Peter has been closely involved with innovations in concrete construction, developing both in-situ and precast concrete hybrid construction techniques.

He is a published author in a range of concrete and construction related subjects, a member of the Industrial Liaison Committee at Dundee University, and contributed to the setting up of an MSc course at UCL and project work at Imperial College.

Already a director of The Concrete Society, Peter currently sits on its technical executive committee and has been closely involved with the compilation of several of The Society's technical reports, including taking the chair for TR34, the highly regarded publication on in-situ concrete floors.

Additionally, through his involvement with CONSTRUCT, the concrete structures group, Peter served on the drafting panel for the National Structural Concrete Specification for Buildings and ENV Execution Standard.
