The University of Exeter has appointed planning consultants Terence O'Rourke to advise on the future development of its main site, Streatham campus.

The practice will work with urban design consultants LDA Design to prepare a new master plan.

The university - Times Higher University of the Year 2007-08 - wants to build on its recent success to become a world-class institution with an emphasis on academic excellence and research.

A number of projects are already in the pipeline, including the high profile Forum and INTO projects together with a new business school.

Terence O'Rourke's appointment follows the practice's recent work with the University of Exeter and University College Falmouth, on the expansion of their shared Tremough campus in Penryn, Cornwall.

Terence O'Rourke prepared a new master plan and secured outline planning consent in February this year.

Managing Director, Tim Hancock, said: "We are delighted about the appointment and welcome the opportunity to build on our portfolio of university clients and extend our relationship with the University of Exeter.

"We will be working closely with Exeter City Council and other key stakeholders to ensure that the University of Exeter achieves its vision and contributes to the economic prosperity of the City and sub-region".

Terence O'Rourke has an extensive track record in the higher education sector, having played a major role in the campus expansion plans for the universities of Surrey and York, together with successful projects for the universities of Kent, Bournemouth and Bath.

The practice is also presently preparing a master plan for Royal Holloway, University of London.
