Terence O'Rourke secures health plans for MoD site
Terence O'Rourke has secured planning consents for future activity for Royal Hospital Haslar at the historic former MoD site on behalf of Our Enterprise Haslar.
A Certificate of Lawful Use for continuation of the health and care-related facilities was secured, alongside three temporary planning consents to encourage immediate use of the site and help protect the historic buildings.
The proposals include 15 residential units in buildings previously used as officers' homes, student accommodation for the University of Portsmouth and an estate office from which to manage the 23-hectare site.
The temporary consents mean that the site can be used while comprehensive long-term proposals are progressed.
The MoD sold the site to Our Enterprise Haslar in November 2009.
The company specialises in bringing together charities, social investors and the public sector for large developments.
Royal Hospital Haslar began as a Royal Navy hospital in 1753, with services extended to civilians in the late 1980s.
In 2001 the provision of acute healthcare was transferred to the NHS and the hospital closed in 2009.
Terence O'Rourke 's consultancy services is helping Our Enterprise Haslar implement the first stages of its vision to bring health and care related services back to Haslar.
Preserving the site's heritage is central to the proposals, including appropriate uses for its 13 listed buildings and historic gardens.
Longer-term proposals for the site, which have been well received locally, are based around a continuing care retirement community including veterans and armed forces accommodation.
