Bradford based Totty Construction has landed three new contracts worth over £16m that will see them provide almost 200 new homes in Yorkshire.

Barratt Leeds awarded Totty the £10 million contract for Brewery Wharf Phase II following the contractor's excellent performance on phase I of the development, which has been on site since June 2002 Totty began construction work on Brewery Wharf phase II in July

This latest phase of the riverside development will add 106 apartments in two further blocks, Regent and St James Quay.

Located at the site of the former Tetley Brewery in Leeds city centre, the scheme, which comprises 3 phases is due for completion in summer 2005.

Comments Chris Burton, Managing Director from Barratt Leeds: "Brewery Wharf is a significant residential development, both for Leeds and for Barratt, and we needed to ensure we could trust the contractor for each phase.

Totty has a reputation for excellent management of tight, city centre sites and their performance during phase I meant that we didn't hesitate to give them the phase II contract." The £4.7m Design and Build contract for Regent Court in Halifax was also awarded to Totty by Barratt Leeds.

The contractor will be responsible for constructing three buildings containing a total of 76 apartments, along with associated external and drainage work.

The site is currently being prepared for construction to begin shortly, and the scheme is expected to be complete in June next year.

Also in Halifax, Persimmon Homes (West Yorkshire) has awarded Totty a £1.4 million contract to refurbish Northowram Hall, a listed building and local landmark.

Recorded as far back as the 13th Century, the Northowram Hall site has housed both a stately home and a hospital and its latest incarnation will see it transformed by Totty into 13 apartments and four town houses.

The project continues a longstanding relationship between Totty and the developer, which includes four recent residential schemes worth a total of £22.5 million in Manchester and Lancaster.

A start date has yet to be set for construction but work is expected to begin this summer.
