Totty Completes £33 Million Hat Trick
Totty Construction, the northern-based main contractor, has been awarded the final phase of the high profile Brewery Wharf residential development, by Barratt Leeds.
The £900K project to upgrade and extend the Ellar Carr Pupil Referral Unit, for Bradford Council, closely follows a £250K project at St Mary's RC Primary School in Horwich, Bolton.
The latest project sees Totty Building Services construct a single-storey steel frame structure within an internal courtyard at the Ellar Carr facility, to create a new multi-use hall.
The courtyard setting of the development has presented Totty with major access restrictions, and a mobile 100-tonne crane will be employed throughout the project to remove excavated materials and for all deliveries to site.
Work to re-roof and refurbish the unit's sports hall, and the demolition of an existing changing block and construction of new changing facilities will also be carried out during the project.
Totty will also create a new entrance to the unit, which conforms to the latest Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) regulations for enhanced accessibility.
Externally, the contractor will erect new fencing in addition to carrying out various hard and soft landscaping finishes, with the project due for completion in the summer.
Philip Ryder, managing director of Totty Building Services, commented: "Working in a live environment always presents a range of challenges for a contractor, however, at Ellar Carr the added restrictions of site access have required precise scheduling of every phase of the development to ensure operational efficiency whilst minimising disruption to the school.
"The last twelve-months has seen a pleasing increase in the number of education projects that Totty Building Services has tendered for and won, and we firmly believe that our commitment to delivering high quality solutions, through a professional and highly experienced team continues to prove a decisive factor in this contract process.".
