Totty Construction, the northern-based main contractor, has been awarded the final phase of the high profile Brewery Wharf residential development, by Barratt Leeds.
At ground floor level a new Reception classroom will be created, with a dedicated classroom for Years 3 to 4 on the first floor and Years 5 to 6 on the second floor.
ISG will also redecorate the school, install a new lift, replace mechanical and electrical services throughout and carry out minor repair work to the school's facade.
Work to reconfigure and rationalise space within the main school building will be carried out to form a new headmaster's office and existing catering facilities will be stripped out and upgraded.
A new high specification commercial kitchen will then be installed to increase overall serving capacity and enhance efficiencies, as the facility also prepares meals for other local schools in the area.
The work will be carried out whilst the school remains fully operational and ISG has carefully phased the project programme to minimise any potential disruption to staff and pupils over the duration of the 45-week scheme.
ISG Totty Building will commence work on site imminently, with the project due for completion by September 2008.
Councillor Craig Whittaker, Cabinet Member, Children and Young People's Services, said: "This is excellent news for parents, pupils and staff at the school who will benefit hugely from the new facilities".
Paul Clarkson, regional construction director at ISG Totty Building, commented: "With early involvement in the scheme, ISG Totty Building Services has developed a robust schedule of works to mitigate the impact of construction at Scout Road Primary School".
"We have built up an enviable reputation successfully delivering challenging education projects across the region and continue to secure an increasing volume of contract wins across both public and private sector clients.".
