Townsend Timber launch new native cladding service
Timber specialist Townsend Timber announce that it now offers a specialist cladding service using wood sourced from within the UK.
The Dorset family company is reducing its carbon footprint by offering durable native species, locally sourced wherever possible.
The wood has hardwearing properties and a natural resistance to decay; making native timber cladding an attractive and natural finish for new builds, renovations and extensions.
"Over recent years we have noticed that timber has become a really popular choice for people who are building or extending their homes, as it is a stylish and sustainable way to finish interior or exterior walls".
"At Townsend we feel strongly about the need to focus on promoting the use of renewable resources in construction where possible, and are now pleased to be able to take this further by obtaining the majority of one of our key product groups; timber cladding, from sources within the South West of England," commented Simon Notley, Managing Director of Townsend Timber.
The new native timber cladding range from Townsend can be delivered nationally and a comprehensive installation service is also offered to customers from within the South West.
"We find that some consumers and construction professionals are not aware that several home-grown species of timber have great durability and are resilient to the UK's ever-changing weather conditions, making an excellent insulator and a highly attractive finished product".
"By sourcing native species, not only are we able to cut down on our transportation but also on the use of chemicals in commercial preservative coating systems which are used on many imported timbers to prolong life span," finished Simon.
Townsend's full timber cladding range also extends to other species including Oak and the popular Western Red Cedar, both offered in several profiles.
These woods have a natural resistance to decay and yet quickly weather to give the iconic 'silvered' aged look to any building.
