Beware The Risks Of Working On Fragile Roofs

A TPS product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Nov 26, 2003

TPS Consult, the Edinburgh and Glasgow-based construction design and project management consultancy, has been awarded a contract by Strathclyde University Estates Department to undertake a roof audit.

The main objective of the work is to ensure a safe environment for staff and contractors who have to carry out work to the various roofs around the university.

TPS Consult will assess the form of each roof, evaluate the structural integrity and produce an overall roof register of risks, as well as advising on safe working techniques.

By gathering and recording the information in an easily accessible format, TPS will ensure that staff and contractors alike will be best advised on safe working practices, and will have access to, and be able to update, the register as and when needed.

This is part of a series of measures introduced by Strathclyde University to improve safety.

Campbell Robertson of TPS Consult, said: "Across the UK, inappropriate working practices on roofs, or a failure to understand the danger of fragile roofing, results in a number of serious and fatal accidents each year.

More property owners should follow the University of Strathclyde's example and help eliminate this kind of accident.".
