Safety First Is Aim Of Burgh Heath Road Works

A TPS product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Dec 5, 2003

A contract to design road improvements and traffic calming measures in Burgh Heath, Epsom, has been awarded to TPS Consult, the leading design and project management consultancy.

The project, initiated by Epsom and Ewell Borough Council, involves the introduction of a mini-roundabout, raised table junctions, road-widening, traffic islands, speed cushions, coloured surfacing and new signage, all designed to deter excessive speeds and increase safety.

TPS Consult will undertake topographic surveys, detailed design and seek approval from the Highways Authority.

The firm will also coordinate with Surrey County Council, Carillion Highways Maintenance and the various utilities.

The work involves: * A new mini-roundabout at the junction of Burgh Heath Road, Downs Road and Church Street.

* Two new raised table junctions at the intersections of Burgh Heath Road and Randolph Road and Beech Way/Beech Road.

* A new gateway feature on the approach to the new traffic calmed area including widening the road to accommodate a new central island.

* A series of new speed cushions and signage.

TPS has started the topographic surveys, with the detail designs expected to be completed by the end of December 2003.

The project itself will be completed by April next year.
