Guernsey Royal Court Work Starts
Work has started on a major project to refurbish and extend the Royal Court for the States of Guernsey Board of Administration.
TPS Schal has been appointed project manager and planning supervisor for the contract.
The States of Deliberation, the island's parliament, decided to develop the existing site in St Peter Port to provide modern accommodation for the administration of justice on the islands.
The £17.5 million project will involve a mix of refurbishment and new build with restoration of the listed Royal Court building.
New facilities will include additional criminal and magistrate courts, custody and probation suites and offices for court administrators.
"The employment, for the first time, of a planning supervisor is a clear demonstration of the client's commitment to new initiatives in procuring and managing its project portfolio," said Paul Reeder, TPS managing director.
"It also offers a unique opportunity for TPS Schal to introduce best practice into States procurement of public works and influence the future development of Guernsey's construction industry." The Bailiff and senior politicians recently attended the blessing of a foundation stone to mark the start of construction activities.
The project is due for completion in January 2006.
