The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea has awarded management of the prestigious Exhibition Road corridor enhancement project to TPS Schal.

The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea has awarded management of the prestigious Exhibition Road corridor enhancement project to TPS Schal, following a competitive tender which also included Arup Management, C2C/Mace, Gardner and Theobold and Atkins.

The multi-million pound project involves improvements to the streetscape along Exhibition Road from South Kensington underground station to Hyde Park, to produce 'a more attractive and stimulating pedestrian environment and an elegant and inspiring streetscape that will provide a platform for public art whilst reinforcing the distinctive character of South Kensington as a centre of cultural and educational activity', according to the design brief.

TPS Schal has considerable experience in implementing this type of high-profile public project involving numerous authorities and stakeholders.

It was the project manager at the recently completed award-winning re-modelling of Trafalgar Square.

This new project will be equally complex, involving London Underground, Transport for London, The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, and the City of Westminster, as well as the residents and businesses along the extent of the project.

TPS Schal will be undertaking project and cost management, planning supervision, contract administration and site supervision services.

Davis Langdon is the cost consultant and Dixon Jones and Arup the design team.

Final concepts for the works are just approaching completion and public consultation, design and procurement will take place later this year with construction expected to start in 2006.
