TPS brought in to advise on site remediation due to its extensive specialist knowledge of sustainable development.

A new prestigious Mercedes Benz car sales showroom in Lawley Middleway, in the heart of Birmingham, only a mile from the Bullring, has been completed.

The GBP8 million showroom was built on the edge of the East Side regeneration area, on a site which had been derelict for eight years.

TPS, the design and project management division of Carillion Business Services, was brought in to advise on site remediation due to its extensive specialist knowledge of sustainable development.

The problem here was the removal of hydrocarbons, such as diesel, from the ground water.

The single-storey showroom has glazed elevations and a central circular 'drum' reception area accessed by a spiral staircase.

There is a separate adjacent Smartcar showroom and workshop facilities providing 22 maintenance bays.

This summer, TPS won a Structural Commercial Award from the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) Midlands Counties branch for the design of the showroom structure.

Developed by Carillion Developments and Canon House Properties, construction of the dealership was completed by Carillion Building.
