Harlow Timber Systems, a member of the Trussed Rafter Association, has undertaken the design, manufacture and supply of the roof structures of five different student accommodation buildings.

Harlow Timber Systems undertook the contracts for Bluestone Plc as the development company The Leicestershire based TRA member has been able to produce trusses to provide viable solutions for roofs with widely differing configurations, pitches and covering materials: all offering speed of erection, controlled cost and high all round flexibility

The projects have been completed in locations such as Coventry, Buxton and Nottingham.

Possibly the largest scheme was the St Peter Street Development in Nottingham where Harlow supplied 750 trusses together with 75 dormer structures.

While the St Peter Street contract, valued at over GBP110k, represented a fairly conventional duo-pitch roof, the latest one produced in Coventry features very shallow sloping, square trusses.

These exhibit just a one degree pitch to clear the rainwater from its standing seam metal decking.

Significantly, these on-going student accommodation developments underline the time and cost savings offered by timber trussed rafters, being employed as they are in combination with factory made modules, another modern method of construction.
