Aztecs put the heat on in remote Scottish island
Combination of Aztec 9kW and 12kW electric boilers from Trianco are helping holidaymakers enjoy time spent in the luxury apartments, whatever the weather conditions outside.
When the Port Charlotte Hall luxury holiday apartments on the Isle of Islay in the Hebrides were created by renovating a 175-year-old village hall, Aztec electric boilers from Trianco were chosen to provide heat and hot water.
With problems securing a consistent gas supply on the island, Unicorn Architecture, the Glasgow-based design specialist that specified the conversion, was faced with the option of oil or electric.
The firm chose electric as it is cleaner, more efficient and more cost effective to use.
Given the relatively remote location of Port Charlotte Hall, the need for low maintenance was a priority.
Trianco was recommended to Unicorn by Glasgow-based City Plumbing, which supplied materials for the conversion.
Sirus Jafari, managing director of Unicorn Architecture and project manager for Port Charlotte Homes, said: "We carried out a lot of research into alternatives to oil boilers, which have failed us in the past".
"Ensuring a supply of oil could also be a problem on Islay".
Installing a system that was simply and easy to use for guests staying in the apartments was essential.
"The Aztec boilers are extremely convenient and simple to operate," said Mr Jafari.
"You press a button and, 20 minutes later, you have hot water and heat".
"They are also less expensive to run than an oil-powered boiler".
Port Charlotte's three apartments feature 14 en-suite bathrooms and central heating throughout.
One apartment has two 9kW Aztecs, one uses a single 9kW model and the third apartment has a larger 12kW version installed.
All Aztec models are virtually maintenance-free and carry out self-diagnostic checking.
They feature soft switching to preserve the element and a resettable thermal safety switch.
The Aztec is plug-in and wall-mounted, providing heat between 50C and 75C.
The Aztec boasts a 99.8% efficiency and has the British Standard Kitemark, which makes it unique on the market.
Unicorn is already considering using Aztec boilers in other projects.
Mr Jafari confirmed: "We have another client who was fed up with their storage heaters".
"I recommended Aztecs and they immediately agreed to switch to Trianco.".
