TermoDeck EPIC environmental benefits
New Warwickshire business-centre uses TermoDeck, a unique building system, allowing it to benefit from low energy consumption as well as reduced carbon dioxide emissions.
In addition, unlike many air conditioning systems, TermoDeck ventilates the building much more effectively without the need for recycled air for the majority of the occupied periods.
With the M and E design, installation and commissioning handled by Haden Young, the Met Office achieved a BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) rating of 'Excellent' against the 2001 standard, reflecting its intelligent low energy approach and meeting the organisation's high sustainability standards.
The Met Office is being managed and maintained by GSL.
Roger Sturman, Director of Services for GSL is extremely positive about TermoDeck's performance to date.
"The decision to create much of the complex around TermoDeck was taken in the early stages of the development and the quality of the internal environment has been excellent since the building first became operational in March last year." Designed by Broadway Malyan Architects, the Met Office houses a sophisticated IT infrastructure required to enable the organisation to handle huge amounts of weather data and customer information every day.
With this 24 hour operation - and the high value of the technology, TermoDeck benefits the complex further in that it provides a low maintenance, leak-free system which is far less likely to cause disruption than other approaches.
