New Warwickshire business-centre uses TermoDeck, a unique building system, allowing it to benefit from low energy consumption as well as reduced carbon dioxide emissions.

Up to 50 new businesses across Warwickshire are set to benefit from some of the most energy efficient office space in Britain, following the opening of the Eliot Park Innovation Centre (EPIC).

The new Warwickshire business-centre uses TermoDeck, a unique building system, allowing it to benefit from low energy consumption as well as reduced carbon dioxide emissions.

EPIC was jointly funded by Advantage West Midlands and Warwickshire County Council and designed to meet the dual needs of providing an effective working environment as well as offering a sustainable, environmentally friendly development.

Creating a low-energy, low maintenance solution for the building - TermoDeck provides an alternative to traditional heating and ventilation systems and has been growing in popularity across the UK since it was first introduced over a decade ago.

Today, TermoDeck buildings have consistently offered extremely low levels of energy consumption compared to other forms of building.

Originally developed in Scandinavia, the TermoDeck system provides a stable temperature across the whole building.

Air is passed through hollow concrete slabs that form the floors and ceilings of the building, these slabs act as a thermal store allowing either heat or cooling to be transferred to the office space.

The need for additional heating or air conditioning is significantly reduced in TermoDeck buildings, helping to minimise energy costs as well as significantly reducing Carbon Dioxide emissions.

Due to the unique properties of the system, people working in the EPIC centre will also benefit from a constant supply of filtered fresh air - helping to improve concentration levels and productivity.

Through the use of TermoDeck, the EPIC centre will benefit from a comfortable temperature across the whole year.

Phil Harris, TermoDeck Sales Director said: "The EPIC centre is a remarkable project, not only because it provides a practical environmentally friendly solution, but more importantly because the centre it helps to establish good business practice.

I am certain that EPIC will be a valuable addition to the region's business community and wish the centre every success in the future".

Cllr June Tandy, leader of Warwickshire County Council said: "This building is all about making commercial sense while being environmentally responsible.

The smart technology it employs will result in cheaper energy bills and Climate Change Levy exemption - surely great news for tenants based here.".
