Trespa Virtuon wall lining is used to create attractive and extremely hygienic environments in hospitals and healthcare projects.
However, as the structure was originally built in the 1960s, and enlarged in the 1980s, the entrance to the building was never impressive.
In order to upgrade the building and undertake a major refurbishment programme, Hurenkamp Architects from Velp were appointed.
Important aspects of their brief were to improve the visibility of the building, enhance the high profile of the company and design a new main entrance that would be attractive to all visitors.
Project architect Raoul Scheffer wanted the entrance to give the building a new look and be eye-catching.
'Our concept was to create an attractive and gradual transition between the exterior and interior, leading visitors from the front door up the stairs and into the showroom.
By adding a triangular extension to the front,' he says, 'we were able to increase the entrance space.
Obviously, this had to complement the existing building as well as giving it a completely new appearance.' Having looked at a number of options, the architect decided on Trespa Meteon Originals in graphite grey.
By careful configuration and design, it was possible to reduce waste when the panels were cut and to minimise the work of the contractor when gluing them to the sub-frame.
This meant that the architect could use the money saved, to specify the Originals panel rather than panels with a standard satin texture.
The Meteon Originals panels have a wavy surface and are fixed with recessed joints.
Externally, this maximises the visual effect because of the ever changing play of light and shadow.
The corners of the building have been mitre cut and have an aluminium profile and crisp detailing to give a straight appearance when viewed from an angle.
By introducing full height glazing, the cladding appears to flow effortlessly into the building.
Inside, further visual effects are achieved over the wall surface in the foyer and up the stairs by showcasing some of BESLI's own lighting products.
Trespa Meteon.
The Trespa Meteon range of architectural panels is widely used for exterior cladding.
They are available in a large range of different colours, effects and finishes or in specials.
The Meteon panel is based on thermosetting resin, homogeneously reinforced with 70% wood fibres and manufactured under high pressure and high temperature.
This results in a panel which is very tough and exceptionally durable, with dimensional stability and workability similar to hardwood.
The smooth, non-porous surface resists the accumulation of dirt and retains its high physical performance and appearance in any weather or in extremes of temperature.
The high impact-resistance of the panel means that it cannot easily be damaged, scratched or abused.
It is easy to clean and unaffected by cleaning materials.
