THB reinforces concrete in Scotland

The Traditional Housing Bureau (THB) presented a strong message to the industry at Scotbuild - that masonry construction presents the most durable, cost effective, efficient and long term sustainable building method for the future of Scotland's house building.
"Modern Masonry Construction is a tried and tested method of construction which offers excellent long term durability and acoustic protection particularly when used in conjunction with concrete floors".
"This also makes it extremely flexible in terms of future adaptability" says executive director Barry Holmes.
Masonry wins hands down when it comes to climate change too - an increasing concern with increased flood risk and reports warning of internal house temperatures reaching an average of 40 degrees by the year 2080.
In a recent study conducted by Arup for DTI the masonry built house far outperformed its rival in terms of maintaining a more comfortable internal temperature.
"Added to its proven performance benefits masonry construction is also cheaper to build than lightweight alternatives and can be completed in a similar time span whilst allowing a greater flexibility to builders in terms of budgeting for materials," added Barry Holmes.
