At its AGM last week, Timber Research and Development Association (TRADA) members confirmed the election of John Perry as Chairman, to succeed Geoff Shaw.

Mr Perry, General Manager-Business Development with Crown Timber plc, brings to his chairmanship 11 years' experience as a main board director with both privately held and quoted companies.

He has managed sizeable retailing and factory operations and has taken responsibility for major international mergers, acquisitions and disposals.

His career in timber began with Meyer International plc in 1973 and spanned more than 25 years across the Group's merchanting, international and forest products operations.

Before joining Crown Timber in 2002, Mr Perry was Managing Director of Heiton UK Ltd, a distributor of specialist building materials.

A former Director of the Timber Trade Federation and past Chairman of the Diversion Insurance (Timber) Association, Mr Perry has been a TRADA board member since 1996.

He takes over as Chairman at an exciting time for the Association.

More than 100 new members have joined since the launch of the askTRADA knowledge resource and there is 'huge scope' for further development, said Mr Perry.
