The walls of Plymouth's Lifeboat House have been treated with Triproof AQ, a high performance water repellent designed for use on masonry, brickwork, concrete and renders The water based formulation is designed to prolong the life of the substrate by reducing frost damage, salt efflorescence, biological growth, chemical corrosion and atmospheric pollution

Main contractor, Bruce Harrison Builders , asked remedial building specialists, Target Treatment, to source a high performance water repellent to reduce the risk of penetrating damp in the Victorian building, built from Plymouth limestone and which stands in a totally exposed position at the end of Plymouth Hoe.

Target Treatment performed a series of test applications with a variety of products before Triproof AQ was selected.

Key criteria in the selection were a water-based formulation and one which would not dramatically alter the appearance of the limestone walls.

After masking all doors and windows, two coats of Triproof AQ were applied using a low pressure spray to all 100 square metres of the exterior walls.

The job was completed in one day.

Triproof AQ is supplied as a concentrate for dilution with water before use and is based on a blend of Silane and Polysiloxane resins.

It is UV resistant, colourless and dries to a tack-free finish.

Whilst reducing water absorption, it does not block pores or capillaries so the vapour permeability of the substrate is maintained.
