Cast iron solution for drainage from Tuscan

A Tuscan Foundry Products product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Sep 25, 2008

Cast iron provides one of the most sustainable and durable materials for rainwater systems, according to a report commissioned by Tuscan Foundry Products.

The whole life cost of copper and cast iron rainwater products is a third of that of PVC and aluminium over a 100 year life cycle.

In addition, cast iron's infinite design possibilities allows it to replicate traditional ornamental rainwater features and unique gutter profiles.

Cast iron is renowned for its strength and longevity to provide a low maintenance solution for rainwater systems.

The popularity of using cast iron for rainwater systems dates right back to the 19th century.

Tuscan Foundry Products has replicated these traditional and unique profiles for the replacement of failed sections of original rainwater systems.

In total, Tuscan Foundry Products offers 19 different profiles, 3 different pipe profiles and over 100 ornamental rainwater hopper heads.

Paul Trace, Managing Director of Tuscan Foundry Products comments: "We are regularly contacted by Conservation Officers for our unique profiles of guttering for the restoration and conversions of historic buildings".

"Our foundry has also replicated unusual gutter profiles and restored historical architectural features like hopper heads back to their former glory".

Tuscan Foundry Products' cast iron rainwater systems are recognised as a suitable replacement for traditional rainwater systems by conservation organisations including SPAB (The Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings).

The traditional cast iron rainwater and gutter systems are manufactured in grey iron and conform to BS460.
