RPA announce the Metro North route in Dublin

The Rail Procurement Agency announce the Metro North route bringing high speed link from north Co Dublin to the City Centre

Rail Procurement Agency has published the route for Metro North which will serve an expected 34 million passengers over the course of a year and provide a much needed link between Dublin city centre with Dublin Airport and beyond.

With an anticipated construction programme of four years commencing in 2009, Metro North forms a crucial part of the Irish Government's Transport 21 multi-billion euro transport framework.

Appointed by the RPA, Healy Kelly Turner and Townsend's role in the Metro North commission will be to provide a programme management service incorporating project and cost management services.

In addition, the commission will include a lead role in the PPP procurement process.

David Fox, Healy Kelly Turner and Townsend's Project Director on the RPA commission said: "As an established transport, infrastructure and PPP specialist, Healy Kelly Turner and Townsend are best placed to deliver this landmark project for the city of Dublin".

"Using our experience of the Edinburgh Airport Rail Link, Nottingham Express Transit, Channel Tunnel Rail Link and Heathrow Express, we look forward to working with the RPA on delivering this key part of Dublin's integrated light rail and metro network".

The project has undergone an extensive consultation period and as a result the project will include a new landmark stop under the River Liffey at O'Connell Bridge with access points from both north and south of the river.

The new route will have over 2,000 park and ride spaces and incorporates excellent bus and rail interchanges with the aim of reducing road journeys by 100 million km annually.
