RSPB appoint Turner and Townsend for new wild bird discovery centre in Saltholme.

International construction and management consultant Turner and Townsend has been appointed as Cost Manager on the new GBP7 million wild bird discovery centre and wetlands project for the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds in Saltholme, Teesside.

Turner and Townsend will act as quantity surveyor, working closely with architects Jane Derbyshire and David Kendall and other members of the design team to ensure the project is delivered on time and to budget.

Turner and Townsend will provide full pre and post contract cost management services including cost planning and tender document preparation.

David Gardner, Director for Turner and Townsend in Teesside, said: "We are delighted to be appointed on this exciting new visitor attraction and look forward to working with the RSPB to deliver a word-class facility for the people of Teesside and the North East".

Tenderers will be procured via a Traditional route, with an anticipated site start this autumn and construction taking approximately 12 months to complete, the RSPB hopes to open the centre early 2008.

With offices in Thornaby, Turner and Townsend are working across the Tees Valley on a wide range of projects from including the billion pound regeneration of Tees Valley, the Institute of Modern Art in Middlesbrough, the relocation of Middlesbrough College to Middlehaven and Tees Valley LIFT.
