The redevelopment works represent a very significant investment by the Department of the Gaeltacht and Galway County Council to increase the fishing and berthing facilities at the port which has suffered from a lack of investment in recent years.
The project involves the dredging of approx 100,000m3 of rock, sand, silt, etc and the creation of a new breakwater, fishing boat berths, cargo quay, ro ro slipway and RNLI facility together with the enlargement and extension of the existing pier and associated landside facilities Tenderers are due back in late March with works expected to commence in the summer and take three seasons to complete.
