Turner and Townsend has been appointed by Freedom Square Hotel to act as cost manager for the development of Holiday Inn Soweto, the first four-star hotel in Kliptown, Soweto.

Due to open in October 2007, this four-star boutique hotel located on "Freedom Square", now named the Walter Sisulu Square of Dedication, boasts 48 rooms which will cater for business and leisure tourists.

The facility will also feature two boardrooms decked out with glass as part of its architecture, state-of-the-art audio visual equipment and internet hubs.

Zatic Hotels and Resorts will manage the hotel, which will form part of the regeneration of Kliptown and as part of the ongoing development, will also feature a tourist office, shops, markets and restaurants.

In addition, a new open air museum will soon open featuring the history of the Freedom Charter.

Signed on this site in 1955, the charter forms an integral part of South Africa's constitution which stated that "South Africa belongs to all who live in it, black and white".

With over 200,000 visitors expected to tour the township per year, the hotel is also offering sight-seeing tours around Kliptown and the whole of Soweto as well as visits to the recently opened Walter Sisulu Square of Dedication.
