Turner and Townsend teams from Manchester, Leeds and Sheffield battled in yesterday's Construction Industry Dragon Boat Challenge at Salford Quays in Manchester to raise money for charity.

With participants from Manchester, Leeds and Sheffield competing in the charity boat race based on an ancient Chinese tradition, three teams of ten paddled each 30' boat with a drummer at the front beating time and a helm at the tail steering a straight course.

Starting early afternoon with the sun beating down, 44 crews battled it out over the 250m race course watched by several hundred spectators.

All of the Turner and Townsend teams performed well with the Leeds team making it to the finals eventually coming in 7th place and the Manchester team picking up medals for the fastest mixed team of men and women.

Staff raised funds in sponsorship for CRASH, the construction and property industries' charity for the homeless.

Rob Wood, Turner and Townsend Director of Manchester office, congratulated the teams "Our staff showed real team spirit and it was great that they combined a fun day with raising money for charity".

"Everyone who took part should be really proud of their efforts and thankfully no-one got wet!".
