Construction on site will commence at the beginning of 2008 and will involve re-build of 165 flats retaining the original design intent of light and spacious surroundings.
Turner and Townsend's management consultants have been advising the Trust in order to achieve an aspiration rating for EcoHomes of 'excellent' (now 5 star for the 'Code for Sustainable Homes') for the new development.
This will enable the team to construct a built community which is environmentally sustainable over time and which will achieve CO2 emissions in line with Government targets.

It is proposed that the scheme design will attain very high standards for the thermal efficiency of the external envelope together with the provision of solar thermal domestic hot water heating systems to further reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions.
Additional environmental measures for the scheme are also being considered including the creation of a 'Green Transport Plan' which would separate pedestrian, cycle and road traffic to encourage more cycling and walking, and a recycling and waste management plan.
Both plans aim to be implemented to achieve greater environmental credibility to Lower Shenley.
Tim Jervis, Associate Director at Turner and Townsend said, "We are delighted to be working with Bournville Village Trust on this exciting residential development.
Sustainability is an important factor in the design and construction of all new housing within the industry and is high on the political agenda.
The Bournville Village Trust scheme shows that sustainability is more than simple hype and can translate to excellent design, affordable and highly desirable housing within a clean and spacious, environmentally aware and focused community." Due to the unique environment of Bournville Village there will be challenges facing the team over the 18 month building construction period.
The fixed road layout will mean the contractors' movement around site will be limited and it is anticipated steps will be taken to minimise noise, dust and pollution for the duration of construction works.
Tim continued: "Residents have come to expect an abundance of green space, leafy suburbs and fresh air.
Bournville Village Trust and Turner and Townsend will work closely together to make sure this remains as much the case throughout the development." Bournville Village Trust was established in 1900 to administer and develop Bournville village and its surroundings.
The 1,000 acre site provides homes for over 25,000 people but still adheres to the original principles of its founders; brothers Richard and George Cadbury.
Driven by a passion for social reform linked with his Quaker beliefs, George Cadbury's objective was to provide decent quality homes in a healthy environment which could be afforded by industrial workers.
Despite less than half of today's inhabitants having a link with the Cadbury factory, the estate still reflects George Cadbury's original stipulation that one-tenth of land should be "laid out and used as parks, recreation grounds and open space.".
