King Shaka International Airport project
Turner and Townsend has secured a leading role in the construction of King Shaka International Airport, South Africa.
It is the first airport to be designed and built on a greenfield site in South Africa for over twenty years and the largest building project on a single site ever procured in South Africa Turner and Townsend supported the Illembe consortium led by international construction companies Group 5 and WBHO during the bidding process which attracted international competition

The Dube Trade Port Authority and the Airports Company of South Africa (ACSA) have now appointed the Illembe consortium to engineer, design, procure, construct and maintain this facility.
Turner and Townsend's continuing role includes the provision of cost management, project services and project controls.
Turner and Townsend's team is led by Tanya Jeffrey and Jon Broadhead who was formerly with the UK's BAA.
Speaking soon after the appointment Turner and Townsend director Ian Donaldson said "This is a great opportunity for Turner and Townsend and not only shows the depth and breadth of the services we provide but also demonstrates our ability to work as an international, multi disciplinary team in order to deliver the best possible solution".
The construction schedule is designed to meet the goal of providing a functioning airport to welcome the huge crowds expected for the 2010 Soccer World Cup.
When complete the airport will serve as the catalyst for the development of the larger trade port in the region and provide a hub for the booming Kwa Zulu Natal economy.
