Turner and Townsend has been short listed for Project Manager of the Year for its work on the International Slavery Museum for the Builder and Engineer Awards 2007.

Builder and Engineer Awards 2007 being held on Wednesday 10th October at The Palace Hotel, Manchester.

The Builder and Engineer Awards reward excellence in innovation, sustainability and exceptional contribution to the built environment.

Turner and Townsend worked with the National Museums Liverpool under an OGC turnkey appointment to commemorate the 200th Anniversary of the abolition of transatlantic slavery by creating a new exhibition on the 3rd Floor of the Grade I listed Merseyside Maritime Museum, exploring the history and legacy of slavery and its resonance on modern culture and civilisation.

The exhibition was completed on time and budget, and opened to the public on 23rd August 2007 in a public ceremony including Harry Belafonte and representatives of the Martin Luther King family.

This complex project involved managing sensitive listed building and world heritage issues, extensive public and community consultation, major decant, specialist design and complicated budget control.

Simon Mann, Turner and Townsend Director, said: "We are really proud of our work on this prestigious and significant project and are delighted that to have been nominated for Project Manager of the Year.".
