Turner and Townsend has been selected by Grand Hotel Group, owner of 4 Hyatt hotels in Australia, to provide cost management services to a major renovation at its central Melbourne-based hotel.

The A$35 million project, which started in August 2007 and is scheduled for completion in October 2008, will create a new meeting point for Melbourne in a unique environment Stand-out features include new facades, entries, restaurants and bar, premium retail plus a 'resident's function space', which will replicate the intimacy of dining at home

The Melbourne project is divided into two distinct projects, the first of which is primarily demolition, applying infill slabs, structural steel and new facades and port cochere, whilst the second project will deliver the high level of finish expected by the Hyatt hotel chain.

In order to maintain a tight schedule, reduce client risk and ensure the highest standards, two separate contractors have been selected.

Turner and Townsend's involvement stems from previous work with the Grand Hyatt Group.

Scheduled works include the forming of new voids, the infilling of existing voids, new lifts, stairs, bridges, facade treatment, retail shop fronts, and porte cochere.

The project will also deliver feature fireplaces, new BOH kitchen, front of house kitchen, bars, restaurants, and wine rooms.
