Turner and Townsend review waste in Greater London

A Turner and Townsend product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Sep 4, 2008

Turner and Townsend commissioned to review and provide greater understanding of all commercial and industrial waste arising within Greater London for the London Development Agency.

London produces over 18 million tonnes of waste a year - approximately 6.6 million tonnes of which is comprised of commercial and industrial waste.

Although currently approximately 44% of this is recycled - it is estimated that around 75% is recyclable.

The findings will be used to identify what additional waste processing infrastructure is needed to manage this waste in London, and where it should ideally be located.

The research will be used by the LDA to catalyse the development of new processing and energy recovery technologies to manage commercial and industrial waste and reduce its carbon impact.

Turner and Townsend Director, Rajiv Sudan commented: "We are delighted that the London Development Agency has entrusted us, together with our partners Peter Brett Associates, with this work that will help guide London's waste authorities and businesses to reduce the amount of commercial and industrial waste being sent to landfill and to manage this waste in a more sustainable manner".

"This is another great example of Turner and Townsend's growing portfolio in the Waste sector".
