Builders committed to environmental construction

Jamie Richardson Builders is a relatively small design and build company based in Mid Wales that is committed to environmental construction and energy-efficient, innovative design solutions for modern living today.
Global warming and escalating energy costs in an energy hungry world are realities that cannot be ignored.
So by building houses predominantly with high levels of insulation, solar- water heating and low energy electrical appliances, running costs are dramatically reduced and pollution to the to the environment is minimised.
In the past few years, we have realised the benefits of using timber frame construction, which allows shorter construction time, higher levels of insulation and, as timber is an environmentally friendly and sustainable product, reduces green house gases.
We have no problem selling these types of houses as consumers are becoming more aware of the substantial energy savings and environmental benefits that can be achieved on this type of build.
Government legislation, through Building Regulations on reducing carbon emissions, means that greater emphasis has to be placed on reducing our environmental footprint.
The growing awareness of the need to conserve energy, and the climatic changes that we can expect in coming years, is widely broadcasted through the media, and public understanding and concern of these issues is evident in the interest shown in our designs.
Jamie Richardson has always designed and built houses that embraced current thinking on environmental methods and energy efficiency.
The demand for the timber frame houses he produces, has led to the emergence of Ty Afal Timber Frames being launched at The Home Building and Renovating Show at the NEC in March.
Based on the same environmental principles, customers can now choose from off-the-shelf self build packages featuring a selection of Jamie's imaginative designs or a more bespoke, in-house design service tailored to the clients specific requirements.
Either service guarantees the highest standards of workmanship and attention to detail and both have optional services and supplies such as external/internal joinery, Planning and Building Regulation application, solar-water heating and many other eco-friendly features and materials.
The company now has a dedicated environmental officer who is responsible for minimising the impact on the natural environment in the design and construction, reducing and recycling waste, and promoting energy efficiency in terms of our operations and the running of the houses.
Recycling facilities are now standard to the designs, and a home pack will inform the homeowner how to best save energy and reduce domestic waste through recycling and composting.
Following on from this, Jamie is also commencing work on an exciting project in his locality.
He is to design and build a small development of two detached and three terraced homes that will built to the highest environmental specifications that will culminate in affordable housing that is mindful of it's carbon footprint and has low energy consumption which will reduce future energy costs.
Another example of the projects the company is involved in has been the design and construction of a new dwelling in Mid Wales.
The house has been designed to the clients requirements and includes the latest technologies for energy saving.
Built using timber frame, the external cladding is reused stone from an existing building on site, recycled handmade bricks, lime mortar, green oak and the roof clad in reclaimed slate.
As well as looking good, the house has high levels of insulation made from recycled newspaper, ground source heating and cooling and rainwater harvesting.
The client is totally committed to producing a house that causes least impact to the environment and has low energy costs.
Like many other customers, they realise that the investment they are making now will produce future gains.
