During a recent refurbishment at the Sheraton Park Tower Hotel in Knightsbridge, London, Tyco Thermal Controls' energy-efficient, self-regulating electric heat-tracing technology has been used for hot water temperature maintenance to a single pipe system and for applying frost protection to external rooftop pipework.
Used in conjunction with the Hotel's own combined heat and power generator (CHP) this advanced technology delivers over 75 per cent energy savings compared with traditional systems.
For hot water temperature maintenance Tyco Thermal Controls' heat-tracing technology on a single pipe system delivers highly efficient hot water services, significant energy savings and lower cost of ownership than re-circulation systems.
The use of HWAT-M self-regulating heating cables provides the guarantee of instant hot water at all points along the pipe work, including deadlegs, whilst eliminating the need for secondary re-circulation plumbing and pumps.
To avoid contamination the heat-tracing is set to maintain a continuous water temperature above 50DegC.
This advanced system offers significant installation time and cost savings over traditional systems and lower maintenance costs.
At the Sheraton Park Tower it also removed the potential for balancing problems on intermediate floors.
Tyco Thermal Controls' heat-tracing technology has also been employed for frost protection on the Sheraton Park Tower's external rooftop pipework.
Here, 1000 metres of FSA-2X self-regulating heating cable with line-sensing thermostats have been installed.
In cold weather, this energy-efficient solution is designed to sense low ambient temperature, powering-up only when required and just sufficiently to prevent freezing.
