Pyrotenax MultiPlus LSF multi-purpose cable and Pyro S fire-rated cables, from Tyco Thermal Controls, have been used extensively in the refurbishment of Glasgow's Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum.

Pyrotenax MultiPlus LSF multi-purpose cable and Pyro S fire-rated cables, from Tyco Thermal Controls, have been used extensively in the £27.9m New Century Project to refurbish Glasgow's Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum.

In all, more than 23km of MultiPlus and almost 14km of Pyro S were supplied to the project electrical contractor D.H.Morris Group, through wholesaler Edmundson Electrical Bellshill.

These cable systems were chosen for their high integrity, performance and exceptional handling characteristics.

MultiPlus LSF is a high performance multi-purpose, lightweight cable system designed to meet the needs of building services installers by offering space, time and cost savings.

This pre-wired conduit is the 'smart' alternative to plastic/metal conduit cabling systems and small size armoured cables, and is suitable for a wide range of applications.

Optimising space and controlling total installed costs are among the major challenges for electrical engineers on any project.

The superior handling characteristics of Multi-Plus LSF make it quick and easy to install and terminate.

Although 66% lighter than 1kV armoured cable, it is flexible yet robust, and retains its installed shape and position.

This cable offers outstanding electrical and safety performance and has a Low Smoke and Fume (LSF) outer sheath for excellent fire performance.

Rated at 600/1000V, Multi-Plus LSF has an aluminium screen that significantly reduces electrical interference to meet EMC requirements and delivers significant space savings by eliminating the need for compartmental trunking.

For the fire-rated applications in the refurbishment, Tyco Thermal Controls' Pyro S standard grade cable system has been employed.

This meets all the requirements set out in the revision of BS5839-1:2002.

Manufactured to a high standard from quality components, Pyro S is pliable, quick and easy to install, without a need for special tooling.

This three year refurbishment, a Glasgow City Council project is now complete and Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum has re-opened to the public.
