Tyco provides integrated CCTV system to Met
Tyco provides large integrated CCTV system to London's Metropolitan Police to improve police response in the capital.
Advanced integrated system gives police real-time access to thousands of CCTV cameras across London to improve security in the capital.
Part of a £36 million contract for an integrated command and control system being supplied by Frequentis Tyco Integrated Systems, now branded as the Traffic and Transportation group within Tyco Fire and Integrated Solutions, has won a prestigious multi-million pound order to supply London's Metropolitan Police with what is believed to be the world's largest integrated CCTV monitoring and control system for public safety and security.
The Tyco CCTV system is part of a larger £36 million contract won by Frequentis for an integrated command and communications system that combines radio communications, computer data systems and CCTV into a fully integrated system designed to provide the public with a faster more effective police response to events and emergencies including 999 calls.
The CCTV system gives hundreds of police operators in 3 main control centres access to real-time images from thousands of CCTV cameras across London including cameras in railway stations, traffic schemes and other public areas.
To handle this complex requirement, Tyco used its CCTV integration skills to design a single large custom video matrix with over 1/4 million cross points that acts as a virtual switching matrix with practically unlimited expansion capability.
This means that further CCTV cameras from any or all the London Boroughs can be easily integrated into the system as and when required.
Tyco is also providing advanced real-time video control software based on the industry standard TV-NP open protocol originally developed by Tyco.
The company also designed and installed the video and audio transmission system linking the cameras and control rooms.
According to Alan Franklin, Technical Director of Tyco Integrated Systems, the CCTV solution developed for the Metropolitan Police, is one of the most advanced in the world.
"This order to supply one of the world's most famous police forces with the world's largest CCTV integration project demonstrates that Tyco has the design and engineering skills required to integrate even the very largest of CCTV systems into a single distributed control system that is easy and effective to use," said Alan Franklin of Tyco.
"The virtual video matrix itself is one of the largest ever built, and the TV-NP open protocol software makes monitoring and control of this large system very easy and intuitive" he added.
For this contract Tyco Integrated Systems worked closely with Frequentis to help provide a complete Integrated Communications and Control System for the Metropolitan Police.
The system combines police radio command and control, information systems and CCTV to provide the advanced facilities required to provide safety and security in the capital city.
Integrated communications facilities include the latest Airwave digital communications system plus links to police computer data systems.
The system is designed to give police officers all the essential knowledge required to co-ordinate their response to incidents and emergencies more effectively.
"We are delighted to be working with Frequentis, one of the world leaders in integrated communications systems for the police and military, on this very large project which breaks new ground in size, complexity and integration technology," said Phill Ford, MD of Tyco Integrated Systems.
"Frequentis' unique capability in command and communications systems plus our expertise in large-scale integrated CCTV projects were major factors in our joint success in meeting the demands of the Met Police".
"Another major factor was our ability to complete the project to a very tight time-scale," he added.
Frequentis has established itself as a leading provider of solutions for Command and Control Centres in safety-critical environments.
The company's networked communication and information sharing systems allow single and multiple users such as police force or fire services to share data with a broader group of responders in public safety, civil transportation, military, and other levels of government.
Tyco's Traffic and Transportation Group is a leading international supplier of integrated solutions involving CCTV, PA, Paging, Wireless Communications and Congress systems.
The group's CCTV systems are widely used on the UK motorway network, in London's mainline railway stations and for major traffic schemes in London including the London congestion charging system.
Tyco's expertise in integrated systems involving CCTV, PA and Radio Break-in are increasing used in major road tunnel projects including the Dartford, Blackwall and Baldock tunnels in the UK.
Tyco's Congress systems are widely used by local and national governments as well as by major international agencies requiring high quality conference facilities for large numbers of delegates and multi-language translation facilities.
