An UGS product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team May 14, 2007

National builders merchant UGS has opened a new outlet in Newcastle on Tyne, its first in the North East.

The depot at Longbenton has eight new employees including branch manager Kevin Sayers.

Mr Sayers, well known in the local building and construction sector, identified the two acre site on Whitley Road last year and approached UGS with a view to opening the new branch.

UGS carried out a GBP50,000 refurbishment of the 6,000 square foot warehouse and office complex prior to opening for business.

The new store serves local construction firms as well as home improvement enthusiasts.

Stock includes building and drainage materials all available on a delivery or collection basis.

UGS also provides a customer reward card offering savings and the chance to win holidays and prizes.

UGS managing director Paul Beaman commented: "We have wanted a presence in the North East for a long time now and the excellent position of the Longbenton site means we are well placed to service the needs of the local DIY and construction sector".

The firm has 14 depots overall, continuing the company's steady expansion since its formation in 1995.

Headquartered in Banbury, UGS also has depots at Shipston on Stour, Birmingham, Norwich, Ipswich, Kirkby in Ashfield, Hucknall, Cardiff, Cross Hands (Llanelli), Exeter, Lowton (Warrington), Chesterfield and Braintree.
