Following the original pilot installation by contractors J C Watson Refrigeration in Choice's Canary Wharf outlet, the company had no hesitation in specifying a similar system in its flagship Bluewater store.
Unico System International provides a variety of heating, cooling and heat pump units to power its high-velocity narrow-gauge ducting systems and J C Watson chose cooling units, featuring large-area water coils that could use the chilled water supply to deliver air at the right temperature and humidity levels for the retail areas.

J C Watson's John Lyman comments: "With a shop area that incorporates different zones, it is difficult to achieve even temperatures using conventional air conditioning".
" With the high velocity air delivered from the unobtrusive Unico outlets, not only did we accomplish consistency through the store but also even temperatures from floor to ceiling." He goes on, "Shoppers are often blighted by cold or hot air being blown onto them on entry into a shop and suffer from uneven temperatures inside".
" With the Unico System we can get the right environment throughout." Further benefits noticed by Choice staff are the low noise levels and lack of draughts normally created by blown-air systems.
Proprietor of Choice, Julian Hines, said: "Our managers have been amazed by the quality of these systems".
" Most of the time they don't realise the systems are running, they are so quiet." Because of the narrow ducting used by the Unico System, J C Watson were able to use existing wall and ceiling voids to channel the insulated, noise-dampened tubes, without the need for extensive building work.
The outlets integrate fully with the store's décor and are largely unnoticed by staff and customers.
The aesthetic qualities of the sophisticated ceiling design have been retained and indeed enhanced by the Unico System ceiling outlets which give the impression of downlights integral to the design.
There seems little doubt that Choice will choose Unico System again".
" "We were so happy with the atmosphere created at Canary Wharf; we knew that we had to have the same for our much bigger store in Bluewater".
" J C Watson have provided an excellent service at all stages and the Unico equipment at both stores works like a dream and has exceeded all expectations in terms of draught-free comfort," comments Julian Hines. Request a free brochure from Unico Climate Control ...
