Hot sound investment pays cool dividends

J C Watson recommended 10 kW Unico System to provide even, controlled heating and cooling to maintain ideal comfort conditions at Investment bankers' Home Cinema Room.

When an Investment banker had a Home Cinema Room built in his home equipped with the latest kit in which to play and record the sounds of voice and music, refrigeration and air conditioning contractors J C Watson were called in to advise and instantly recommended a 10 kW Unico System to provide even, controlled heating and cooling to maintain ideal comfort conditions.

The system installed by J C Watson has a Unico Heat Pump unit at its heart, using external air from which to draw and dump its heat energy load.

The heat pump's refrigeration circuit is switched by internal sensors to either "pump" heat into the studio or to dump it out via a low-noise, outside airflow condenser.

The Unico System's unique narrow-gauge, high-velocity ducting and small, unobtrusive outlets mean that musicians are free from draughts and the temperature is even throughout the studio.

The original radiators which provided heating to the studio have been removed.

A major consideration for the customer was the amount of noise generated by the heating and cooling system.

To have separate boiler and air conditioning system would be to introduce two sound elements into the mix and radiators were avoided because of potential noise from recirculating pump and air bubbles in the system.

Unico System was chosen by J C Watson after their experience with the system in other low-noise applications and because of the noise dampening qualities of Unico's ducting and outlet assemblies.

The operation of the Unico System is integrated into the control system for the studio as a whole so that climate is controlled as well as the sound, the lighting and other building services.

Despite opting for a premium comfort system, the customer is delighted with the investment.
