The owners knew they had to provide air conditioning for their poor staff,but the bids they had received for installing conventional system that would adequately cool such a large space were astronomical and more than they could possibly afford.
Enter Colin Williams and Don Davis of Statewide Sheet Metal, certified Unico System installers in Gainesville.
They knew that Unico's successful track record of industrial spot cooling in assembly plants owned and operated by Hon Manufacturing and Suttle Apparatus would provide an affordable alternative to the massive tonnage that would be required from conventional system.
Pleased with the price and the apparent ease of installation, Quality Cleaners' owners contracted with Statewide Sheet Metal to install Unico System spot cooling in the fall of 1998.
For maximum comfort at an environmentally friendly and affordable operating cost, Colin and Don installed platform-mounted 4-ton Unico System air handler and chilled water coil (supplied by David Cravey of Coastline Distribution) in conjunction with a chiller manufactured by Aqu Products,of Irmo,SC.
The main plenum was suspended from the shop's ceiling and consists of spiral metal pipe wrapped with insulation in Mylar jacket.
The main plenum is laid out in a straight run teed off of the unit, with a dogleg branch to provide cooling to all of the worker's stations.
Unico System flexible,"poseable " jet tubing is used to supply the conditioned air to each worker station.
The benefits of Unico System spot cooling are numerous.
With spot air conditioning you cool the worker,not the workspace.
This allows the shop owner to utilize smaller tonnage than would be required to cool the entire space.
Therefore,both installation and operating costs are lower than those of conventional system.
In addition, because the Unico System's coil has a greater surface area and operates at a lower temperature than a conventional coil, Unico spot cooling removes more moisture from the air and provides the worker with dry, cool air for maximum comfort.
