UPS provides royal protection
Uninterruptible Power Supplies to supply, install and maintain a new 120KVA UPS system in its upgraded information and communications centre at London's prestigious Victoria and Albert Museum.
Situated on the ground floor, the unit supports all areas of the hotel's communication system - protecting everything from sensitive customer and financial data to the computerized key card locks, which are fitted to each of the bedrooms.
The hotel was opened in 2000 and the UPS has served the hotel without issue throughout that time, in part due to the regular maintenance and battery care also carried out as part of the maintenance contract offered by Uninterruptible Power Supplies .
The Millennium Madejski hotel, situated in Reading, just off the M4 motorway, forms part of the Madejski Stadium Complex, incorporating the Royal Berkshire Conference Centre, and home to both Reading Football Club and London Irish RFC.
With the need to increase its UPS function, to support a new 61 room extension built in 2007, the hotel chose to double its protection by installing another PowerWAVE5000 to run in parallel with the existing unit.
Andrew Mitchell, maintenance manager for the hotel, commented: "The new rooms and increased connectivity meant the existing unit would have exceeded its capacity, so we knew we needed to increase the level of protection".
"We have been working with UPS for many years; they have always offered us an excellent level of service, so we were happy to purchase an additional PowerWAVE5000 to run alongside the existing unit".
"It means we have real peace of mind and maintain a very high level of operating efficiency".
Referring to a recent power outage Mitchell continued: "The hotel experienced a loss of mains power a few months ago and everything worked perfectly".
"The UPS supported all our systems until the power was returned, removing the danger of losing any sensitive or important data".
Peter Bentley, sales director for UPS , remarked: "This is an excellent example of where good planning means an appropriate level of protection for critical functions has been maintained, whilst still remaining efficient and cost effective".
"Regular maintenance has also ensured the system is functioning to its true capacity, and maximising the protection.".
