Knowledge management software from Union Square
One of the UK's largest architectural firms adopts 'Workspace' from Union Square to assist its forward-thinking and knowledge led designs
International architectural firm, Reid Architecture, is implementing portal-based knowledge management software from Union Square Software, to ensure that critical, real-time project information is available at all times to support the efficient delivery of Reid's innovative "knowledge led" solutions for customers' architectural needs.
The 'Workspace' portal, which cost in the region of £95,000, will act as a consolidated system in Reid's London office, providing real-time updates for all of the office's current activities - from its technical and design documents to its business development and accounting records.
The first phase of the roll-out will be completed in September this year.
With many unconnected software packages in use throughout its London office, Reid chose to implement an integrated knowledge management system to consolidate its internal databases and intranet.
Delivering a range of benefits associated with capturing, storing and retrieving the entire knowledge base of an organisation through a single system and interface, Workspace provides easy access to all documents via one central source.
Reid selected Union Square over three other competing providers due to its ability to address and meet Reid's extremely detailed specifications for its IT requirements.
Robert Dalziel, Director at Reid Architecture in London, comments, "What we are doing is pretty ambitious as we are replacing all our current databases with Workspace".
"We are convinced that Union Square is not only able to meet our criteria, but that it has a sufficient share of the marketplace to be around in years to come".
"Undoubtedly, the company's specialist knowledge of the construction industry means that it has the experience and expertise to be able to help us overcome the issues that we regularly face".
Reid Architecture will be utlilising the Workspace system to improve document control, email and drawing management, project time sheet recording and resource and skills management.
Dalziel continues, "It is critical that project information is readily available and at our fingertips".
"Workspace will be particularly useful to our technical staff enabling them to make project decisions on the most up-to-date and reliable information." He concludes, "Once the programme is up and running in the London office, Reid's chairman is keen to see it rolled out across the rest of the company worldwide".
"Union Square were very proactive, taking us through the system and how it worked; they have a very technically proficient team which is confident about what it does".
"We have been very pleased with our decision to work with them".
Established in 1979 as Geoffrey Reid Associates, Reid Architecture now employs almost 200 people in Europe alone.
With offices in London, Birmingham, Glasgow, Madrid and a sister company, Reid-Campbell, in Australia, the firm is growing continuously.
The company is unique in its approach, offering "knowledge led" solutions for its customers' architectural needs.
